I was a competitive swimmer in my youth through high school. I started running in college and kept running through my time in the U.S. Navy. My interest in running was renewed when my children became youth soccer referees, I certified along with them. My running allowed me to be ready to keep up with the play at the very start of the season for high school senior boys matches.
It was in the summer of 1996 that a co-worker saw me running at lunch one day and suggested I join the company "team" for the (then) Corporate 5K held in Hartford each August. That lead to running 5K's which lead to trying the 10K distance at the Windsor Lions Club Bradley Airport Road Race. By 2003, I was ready to give the Hartford Half Marathon a try.
My first Marathon was the 2004 Walter Child Race of Champions in Holyoke, MA. Later that year, I also competed in the Hartford Marathon. I have also run marathons in New York, Boston, and Arizona. It was in 2004 that I earned my Road Runner's Club of America Distance Running Coach certification. In 2010, I completed the USATF Level I coachin certification course.
I have been helping friends and family with their own running since 2005. With their success and support, I have decided to offer what I have learned to you, too.
